What exactly are people looking for when they stare down into the tunnel while waiting for the train? What else could possibly be coming out of that tunnel? Is there something I'm missing out on here? Like, is there going to be a day when instead of a train coming out of there, an incredibly cool surprise transportation method is going to shock us all by coming out of that tunnel? So, yeah, I've never really understood that.

its the thrill of being the first person to notice the train is coming.... and yea u never know when some guy will come running out followed by the police!
First of all i think its all because we are bored and have nothing better to do.But i have also noticed lately people are always looking to the future and not on whats going at the moment. So to your train. That.. or they are debating whether to jump or not.you pick
Wow, that's very cheerful of ya -"debating whether to jump or not." But the whole looking towards the future analogy, that's really insightful.
ok its because we are LOOKING FOR THE TRAIN. we are WAITING for it, and we want it to COME already. Hence, we are watching for it. That is all.
WATCHING for the train and WAITING for the train are a bit DIFFERENT though, wouldn't YOU say? I WAIT for the train too, I don't try and see as far down the tunnel as I possibly can to see if the train is coming because I KNOW the train is eventually going to be coming out of there. So if it's widely accepted that, yes, a train will in fact be coming out of that tunnel at one point or another, then why are people so busy trying to see down there? That is all.
